The Woods are the dearest of friends. We have been close for years now having lived together, participating in their wedding as a groomsman and bridesmaid, and sharing life’s up and downs along the way. We all decided that we needed to get out of the city for a while so we rented a home over three nights at Ocean Beach on the South Wairarapa coast. It was a quaint old home, let’s just say it had a lot of character. Our days were spent fishing for lunch and dinner at Lake Ferry, reading on comfy sofas and sharing a decent coffee at Neighbourhood in Martinborough. We decided to weave our way around the south coast to Cape Palliser where we passed through tiny fishing villages and surfers disappearing into the eerie mist that set down upon the sea. It was the strangest of days. In the space of a few miles as we rounded one of the coast’s bends, bright blue skies with the summer warmth on our backs turned to cloud so low you couldn’t see very far ahead of you at all. We arrived at the Cape and shared a picnic lunch amidst the curious seals. That’s the way we like it. Friendship, adventure and nature.
